DEHRA DUN: The Uttarakhand Raj Bhavan, earlier a Circuit House, where Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru spent a few days before passing away came alive with over 200 children from various schools presenting cultural items on the occasion of Children’s Day over the week-end. Commending the performances, Governor Margaret Alva urged the Government to take child welfare schemes to the remotest villages as it was here that the future of the nation lay. Describing physical handicap as no barrier for the special children to grow up into responsible citizens, Ms Alva wanted emphasis on a little extra care to help the challenged kids. The children from various schools including the Bajaj Institute, Nanhi Duniya, Cheshire Home and Sharp Memorial were brought to the Raj Bhavan by the State Child Welfare Board. The Governor urged the State Tourism Department to use the song ‘Doon Mera’ presented by students of Jaswant Modern School as it’s signature tune. Priyanshu Joshi who had saved his sister from the clutches of a leopard on July 1 last was honoured with a cash prize of Rs 5000.
