Kozhikode: M.M. Hassan, Congress spokesman, has said that the decision of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) executive not to admit K. Muraleedharan back into the party is binding on all party leaders. At a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Hassan said the KPCC was adamant against Mr. Muraleedharan’s return. “Nobody is afraid of him or his coming back,” he responded to a query. On the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran favouring Mr. Muraleedharan’s return, he said, “I can’t say what Mullappally should say or not. He has to decide on that.” When told that Mr. Muraleedharan had been called to New Delhi to meet senior Congress leaders, Mr. Hassan said, “Anybody can meet Mohsina Kidwai [Congress general secretary in charge of Kerala] or Sonia Gandhi [Congress president].” Asked what the KPCC would do if the Congress high command allowed Mr. Muraleedharan’s entry, he said, “We will look into the matter at that time.” HartalsMr. Hassan said the State government should take the initiative to put an end to hartals in the State, which held the pubic to ransom. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy had said that the KPCC would take an official stand against hartals shortly. The Legislative Committee had submitted a draft on regulating hartals in the State. The government should accept the proposal, he said.
