JALANDHAR: Army marksman C.K. Choudhary captured the 25-metre men’s rapidfire pistol gold with a total of 764.5 in the 53rd National shooting championship at the PAP range here on Sunday. Favourite Vijay Kumar, who had won the World Cup silver in Beijing and the fourth place in the World Cup Final in Wuxi, China, this season, failed to make the final following a malfunction of his weapon in the qualification series. A score of 190.5 in the final by Choudhary helped him beat Pemba Tamang to the gold with a 6.9 point margin, after he had enjoyed a four-point lead over him prior to the final. Rahul Panwar who had shot 576 in the qualification, for a two-point lead over the eventual gold medallist, could muster only 180.4 in the final and had to be content with the bronze. The results: 25m rapidfire pistol: 1. C.K. Choudhary 764.5 (574); 2. Pemba Tamang 757.6 (570); 3. Rahul Panwar 756.4 (576). Team: 1. Navy 1688, 2. Army 1677, 3. Maharashtra 1610. Juniors: 1. Devinder Singh 551; 2. Ruchit Kapagia 547; 3. Vikram Ghaisas 521.
