Sub-junior meet from today

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Karnataka boys will take on Orissa in the opening fixture of the 32nd sub-junior National volleyball championship beginning at the Nehru stadium in Shimoga on Monday.

Tamil Nadu boys and girls are the defending champions having won a double in Jammu last year.

Uttar Pradesh and Kerala along with West Bengal in the girls section are the other top contenders for the title. The finals are slated for November 22.

The championship, sponsored by Surya Bulbs and Tubes is being organised in the memory of Smt. Mytra Devi, the late wife of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

The organisers — the District Administration along with Karnataka Volleyball Association and the District Volleyball Association — have readied four outdoor courts and one indoor court for the championship that will see 24 teams in the boys and 20 in the girls section.
