MYSORE: The World Diabetes Day on Saturday was marked by a public rally to create awareness about the disease. The rally, held under the joint auspices of the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), Indian Medical Association, MMC Teachers Association and students, was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner P. Manivannan. Information material and pamphlets describing the progress of diabetes, its impact, precautionary measures to be taken to keep it at bay and treatment for the disease, were distributed to the public on the occasion. Nearly 500 students from different colleges, including the Mysore Medical College and Cauvery and Vishwabharathi nursing colleges, apart from doctors and paramedical staff marched through the thoroughfares of the city. This was followed by a public meeting at the Platinum Jubilee auditorium. D. Venkatesh, Dean and Director of MMC&RI, was among those present.
