Rural IT Quiz bowls over cricketer Venkatesh Prasad

BANGALORE: “I am thanking God I’m a cricketer; not a student sitting there,” remarked Venkatesh Prasad even as young students from across the nation battled for the top spot of the National IT Quiz 2009 conducted by the Department of IT, BT, Science and Technology, Karnataka, in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at the Jnanjyothi Auditorium here on Thursday. The quiz master for the event was Giri Balasubramaniam.

The winners of first round were Ahmed Shabib and Nitesh Raj from Philomena PU College, Puttur, who later participated in the national level quiz as the State rural champions.

The national winners were the young boys of St. James School, Kolkata.

While the team from DAV Public School, Bhubaneswar, stood second, DPS, Noida, came third. The national winner received a glittering trophy, a cash scholarship of Rs. 80,000 and iPods.

The first and second runners-up were given Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 20,000, respectively.
