State-level science fair today

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The Organisation of Muslim Educational Institutions and Associations of Tamil Nadu (OMEIAT) will hold the second State-level science fair at the Crescent Matriculation Higher Secondary School for Girls, Pycrofts Garden Road, Nungambakkam on Thursday.

The ‘Omeiat Science Fair’ is being held in 3 levels (classes IV - V, VI-VIII and IX-XII) in 3 categories – environmental science, physical science and biological science. Around 300 teams will be putting up their exhibits. According to A. Nigar Akthar, organising secretary, OMEIAT, what makes this annual event different is that it looks for “scientific method” applied among students.

“We ask student to follow the step and arrive at a conclusion. For example, a student once showed why a snail prefers to sit in one particular leaf over the other leaves,” said Ms. Akthar. The exhibition begins at 9 a.m.
