Eight arrested on charge of piracy
ELURU: The city police on Wednesday arrested eight mobile shop owners from the city on the charge of downloading songs and the other music content into mobile phone memory chips from internet illegally. Seven computers, micro chips and the other equipment used for downloading were also seized from the shops. The police conducted raids on these shops on a tip-off from the officials of the Indian Music Industry. City DSP Y. Saisekhar said the accused were found collecting Rs 100 from each customer for downloading music content into the mobile phones.
K.V. Chalapathi Rao, Senior Investigator from the IMI told reporters that the acts of downloading of music content by the mobile shop owners in violation of the Copy Rights Act caused huge financial losses to the IMI. The police conducted raids on a number of shops in Nellore, Prakasam, Krishna and Guntur districts and registered cases against 28 shop owners for violation of the Copy Rights Act, Mr. Rao said. He appealed to the shop owners to obtain a licence from IMI by paying a monthly fee of Rs 1,500 to legalise the transfer of music content.
