DHARWAD: Former Indian cricketer K. Venkatesh Prasad inaugurated the 12th Inter- collegiate Athletic Meet of Visvesvaraya Technological University hosted by the SDM College of Engineering and Technology here on Wednesday. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the annual event, Mr. Prasad said, “Everyone cannot win, but continuing one’s efforts till the end and having the satisfaction of giving one’s best to sports is important.” Another cricketer Vijay Bharadwaj urged the students to develop the desire to be the best and also adopt a “never quit” attitude. Presiding over the inaugural ceremony, Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University H.P. Khincha elaborated on how sports was important during student days and lauded the arrangements made by the host college for the event. Mr. Prasad released a souvenir brought out to mark the event. Secretary of SDME Society Jinendra Prasad read out a message from Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Sri Veerendra Heggade. Registrar of VTU K.V.A. Balaji, Director of the host college M.N. Sudheendra Rao, Director of Physical Education of VTU Arif Alikhan, organising secretary A.G. Bujurke and chief coordinator K.C. Shindhe were present. As many as 767 athletes from 96 colleges are participating in 22 sub-events grouped under 13 main events.
