CHENNAI: The FICCI Entertainment Division will host ‘Media and Entertainment Business Conclave,’ an international conclave to ideate, network and establish global linkages with foreign media agencies, in Chennai. The two-day conclave, beginning on November 18, seeks to present a comprehensive report on southern entertainment industry and expose delegates to the global developments, trends and opportunities in the entertainment industry. Actor Kamal Haasan, chairman of the conclave, said a wide range of issues concerning media industry would be discussed with leading actors, technicians and other media personalities. The meet would provide a forum to take up regulatory issues with the State and Central governments. “It is a conclave to bring different Indian States and their entertainment industries together. South Indian film industry has a dominance over others in terms of the number of films produced. But, it is not adequately represented yet. This conclave will shift the focus of the world to south Indian films,” he told mediapersons here on Tuesday. It is the first step towards networking global film industries and this will be held subsequently in other southern states, he said. On FICCI’s role in the growth of entertainment sector, Mr. Haasan said it lobbied with the government to get an ‘industry’ status for Indian film industry. “The conclave is the culmination of seeds sown by many people in the film industry. Sharing expertise and networking with global giants will be its prime focus.” “It is one of the prestigious conventions on entertainment in Asia. A gamut of topics and issues will be covered at the conclave, which is being held for the first time in south India,” said P. Murari, advisor to FICCI president. On the role of the State government in supporting the conclave, Information and Public Relations Department Deputy Director D. Ilangovan said the government was providing Rs.50 lakh for the conclave. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi would inaugurate it. Noted filmmakers, government officials, animation experts, technicians, television personalities, actors, multiplex owners, representatives from Hollywood and other film industries will attend the conclave. A range of topics such as the journey of entertainment industry, options and challenges in financing films, film content, partnerships, consumer choices, growth of radio, digital cinema, performing arts and role of censorship will be discussed.
