KOA awards announced

BANGALORE: A good mix of talented young sportspersons, veteran internationals and coaches find a place in the Karnataka Olympic Association’s awards list for the year 2009. The awardees include Prakash Jolly (badminton), Kshipra Mahajan (swimming), A.R. Navneeth (table tennis) and Rebecca Jose (athletics). Prominent among the list of winners in the veterans’ category include former internationals Ashish Ballal (hockey), G. Dilip, S.A.S. Rangadev (basketball), Usha Sunderraj (table tennis), Amaldas, Capt. M. Venu (boxing) and volleyball coach Made Gowda..

In media category, KOA has decided to honour institutions rather than individual scribes and as such awards for the year went to Kannada Prabha (print) and E TV Kannada (electronic).

The awardees will honoured with a citation, memento and a shawl besides a cash prize of Rs.20,000.

K. Govindaraj, the president of the KOA announcing the awards said, “we will provide financial assistance to promising youngsters, who wish to train abroad, provided d they are recommended by their respective association.” He also said all State Associations which conduct National events would receive Rs. 25,000 as financial assistance from the KOA. .

The awards will be presented on November.12 by the Governor, H.R. Bharadwaj at the Raj Bhavan.

Ravi Kumar (volleyball), S.A. Rangadev (basketball), G. Dilip (basketball), Made Gowda (volleyball), I. Amaldass (boxing), Capt.M. Venu (boxing), Krishnaji Rao (football), A.D.
