SALEM: The Indian Information Technology industry is returning to the path of growth, Regional Director of National Association of Software and Services Companies K. Purushothaman said here on Tuesday.

He was inaugurating a faculty development programme on J2EE and Best Practices in Application Development organised by the Department of Computer Science of Periyar University and the ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Purushothaman said that the industry, which was affected by the economic slowdown, is recovering and was expected to generate more employment opportunities.

In Tamil Nadu, the growth rate of the IT industry would be higher than that during the previous fiscal, he said.

Concern

He expressed serious concern over the high level of “unemployability” among students and appealed to teachers to help students equip themselves with skills that matched industry requirements.

A majority of the students coming out of the portals of higher education were found unemployable.

Students should put in wholehearted efforts to improve their skills and keep abreast of the advancements in their chosen field of study.

Mr. Purushothaman also explained various services extended by Nasscom for students.

He called upon the students to take full advantage of the services extended by the association.

The Regional Director urged the educational institutions and trade bodies to push for the implementation of the Information Technology Park project in Salem.

University Vice-Chancellor M. Thangaraju presided. Deputy General Manager B. Anbuthambi and faculty members from various institutes attended the training programme.
