Bangalore: ‘Bhavanotsava 2009’, a seven-day cultural festival featuring music, dance, visual arts, theatre, folk performances and a book exhibition, will begin on November 15 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Bangalore Kendra of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB). Its highlight will be the release of a few volumes of Mahatma Gandhi Kruti Sanchaya, a 100-volume series of collected works of the Mahatma in Kannada, BVB Executive Director Mathoor Krishnamurti told presspersons here on Tuesday. “We will release volume numbers 14 and 15 during the celebrations. By the end of the year, we hope to release volume numbers 16, 17, 18 and 19.” H.N. Suresh, Director (Programmes and Projects), said that over the next five years the BVB hoped to have centres in all districts of the State. “Right now, eight Bhavan Kendras have been opened in eight district headquarters, including Mysore, Dharwad, Shimoga and Kodagu.” The foundation stone for the BVB’s Bangalore Kendra was laid by then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on January 31, 1965, while then President V.V. Giri inaugurated it on November 16, 1966. ProgrammesThe Bhavanotsava will feature over 150 artistes, and cultural programmes will be held on four successive weekends (November 15, November 21 and 22, November 28 and 29, and December 5 and 6) at BVB Auditorium, Race Course Road. There is no entrance fee.
