Youth held, property worth Rs. 4.45 lakhs recovered

VISAKHAPATNAM: A youth who was allegedly involved in four robberies in the city was arrested by the Two Town Police on Monday. Gold and silver articles and a laptop, all worth Rs.4.45 lakhs were recovered from him.

The accused K.L. Bharat, 20, of Malkapuram, was involved in the theft of gold and silver articles worth Rs.2.5 lakhs in the house of Kalyanapu Srinivasa Rao at Allipuram on October 25, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Brahma Reddy and Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohd. Khan told a media conference.

He had also stolen gold ornaments worth Rs.50,000 from the house of K.V. Appa Rao Gupta at SBI Colony on August 12 and Rs.25,000 worth of gold ornaments and a cell phone from the house of K. Appala Raju of the same area on October 13.

The accused had also stolen a laptop worth Rs.35,000 from the house of P.V. Lakshmi Sailaja opposite the Veterinary Hospital on October 23.

The DCP appreciated efforts of Two Town CI S.V.V. Prasada Rao and his team for tracking down the accused.

Gold, silver articles stolen

In a major house-breaking incident at MVP Colony, burglars decamped with gold and silver articles worth Rs.2.5 lakhs on Sunday night.

B. Rama Raju, a builder, and his family were living in an apartment at Sector-II.

They went on a visit to Mandapeta on Friday.

Late last night, burglars gained entry into the flat by breaking open the lock on the main door and stole the valuables from the almyrah.

The apartment watchman noticed the door open on Monday morning and informed the police.

Three Town CI K. Ranga Raju is investigating the case.
