KOCHI: Minister for Industries Elamaram Karim said here that the State government would conduct a study and strive to create a consensus to make mineral sand available for industries, which use it as raw material. The Minister was inaugurating a function organised on Monday to disseminate information on Cemox Clay, a substitute for clay developed by Edayar-based Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL), a 100 per cent export-oriented unit. Successive State governments have refused permission to officially extract mineral sand despite it being rampantly smuggled, said S. N. Sasidharan Kartha, Managing Director of CMRL. The Industries Minister also inaugurated the sale of Cemox Clay at the function. Managing director of Kerala Clays and Ceramics Subrahamanya Panikker received the first consignment. P. Dhanapalan and P. Rajeev, MPs were among those present at the occasion.
