Shimoga
Shimoga: B.Y. Raghavendra, Shimoga MP, submitted a memorandum to the Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa in Bangalore on Monday requesting him to retain the morning Shimoga-Bangalore Passenger train, which is likely to be cancelled. In the memorandum, Mr. Raghavendra said that the train was one of the main modes of transport for the common people of the Malnad region as the train fare was only Rs. 38. Cancellation of the “popular train” would cause a lot of inconvenience to the commuters, he added. Mr. Raghavendra urged the Minister to announce the date for the introduction of the Inter-City fast train between Shimoga and Bangalore. The time schedule has already been announced. He expressed concern over the delay in the completion of the Shimoga-Talaguppa gauge conversion work which should have been completed by end of 2009. He said that Mr. Muniyappa should ensure its early completion. He appealed to the Minister to direct the Mysore Railway Division authorities to hand over the land adjoining the Railway Station to the district administration for construction of the Ring Road. The land in question belongs to the Railways, and only if it was handed over to the local administration can the Ring Road work be completed, he added. In exchange of the land, the district administration was willing to sanction another piece of land elsewhere in the city to the Railways. He has also requested the Minister to ensure the expeditious completion of the work on the construction of the railway overbridges in the city limits. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Hartalu Halappa and the former Shimoga MP Ayanur Manjunath were present.
