Curious minds: Children at the book exhibition organised by Karnataka Sangh in Shimoga on Monday.

Shimoga: A book exhibition, organised by the Karnataka Sangh here in association with several publishing houses, opened here on Monday.

The former president of the Karnataka Sangh Vijaya Sridhar inaugurated the exhibition. Giving details about the book exhibition, she said it was being organised every year by the Karnataka Sangh as a part of the celebration of Kannada Rajyothsava. The exhibition was aimed at promoting literature and culture of Karnataka among the people, she added.

She said that the Karnataka Sangh was 79-year-old organisation. The book exhibition was being held every year to celebrate its anniversary, she added.

President of the Karnataka Sangh T.N. Shankaranarayan said that while it was common to hold the cultural programmes to mark the Kannada Rajyotsava, the Karnataka Sangh had though it fit to organise a book exhibition to promote culture and spread knowledge.

The former president of the Karnataka Sangh K.G. Subramanya, members H.D. Udayashankar Sastry and H. Vishalakshi were present.

A lecture on “Book of My Love” by writers has been organised on the sangh premises as part of the ten-day book exhibition.

Twenty to 50 per cent discount on books is on offer.
