Trendy phones in ‘trouble’

Users of China-made mobile phones in the city are in for a shock when media reports suggested that their phones would be disabled by the Central government, as these handsets are considered ‘illegal’.

The report also suggested to them to send a message to particular number to find out whether their handsets are legal or illegal. Quite a few users received replies that their mobiles are ‘illegal’ they would be rendered ‘useless’ by the end of this month.

The owners of these ‘trendy’ phones are still praying their favourite gods that something should happen to enable them to use their phones without any problem. “The jamming news is all bogus,” they say in unison.

Suraksha effort

Ayurveda, pancha karma and such ancient systems of medicine attract the attention of many, but do not get opportunities to pursue them.

Some experts continue to make efforts to attract interested persons to learn these medical methods. Suraksha Health Village director K. Manikyeswara Rao and K. Poorna Rajeswari are among those who strive to popularise Ayurvedic treatments at every opportunity.

Though their premises were reduced to a rubble in a fire accident a year ago, they re-opened the facility on the same Gurunanak colony road. To create interest among these systems of medicine, they take those enrolling for these courses on a tour to places like Srisailam and Araku in AP and a few spots in Kerala. Dr. Rao says with confidence that a person’s interest in Ayurveda will get enhanced if he or she is exposed to places where aromatic and medicinal plants are aplenty.

Try these tips

Simple tips that can make life easy fail to cross our mind, almost always. Bogged down by trivial hang-ups, we wallow in self-pity and set ourselves on a path that can only lead to self-destruction. This was the gist of the inaugural of a two-day leadership training camp that was kicked off on the campus of Maris Stella College on Monday.

Doling out tips to students on how to capture the world were Mumbai-based resource persons Vivek Patki and Ajit Kamath. “Even serious conflicts can be resolved by merely switching over from ‘You’ statements to ‘I’ statements,” said Mr. Patki, advising to shun the accusatory ‘You’ and instead embrace a more humble ‘I’.

“There is a vast difference between ‘you have ruined my day’ and ‘I am hurt’. The latter will not just take the steam off the annoying situation but will also keep your relationship intact with the other person,” he said, amidst heads nodding in quick affirmation.
