Lok Satta to identify local issues, offer time-bound solutions

K. Srinivasa Rao

HYDERABAD: Identification of local problems in each division, time-bound solutions with budget layout, and reaching out to the people with both, will be the strategy to be adopted by Lok Satta Party.

It is hopeful of winning 45 to 50 divisions in constituencies such as Kukatpally, Serilingampally, L.B.Nagar, Malkajgiri, Uppal, Jubilee Hills, Khairatabad, Musheerabad and Qutbullapur.

“These are the places where the party network and candidates are strong and the voters, in our favour. We also have 50 more divisions in mind where the organisation needs improvement, but candidates are strong. However, we have not penetrated old city so far,” said city unit president K. Srinivasa Rao.

Nominations

In all, 146 nominations were filed by candidates chosen depending on their personal history, understanding of the party manifesto, and ability to garner funds up to Rs. 2 lakh. “Response has been quite good wherever we spoke to people. They clearly understood the difference between us and traditional political parties. Till then, they had not viewed politics as something that changed lives, hence chosen between Congress and TDP. Our only challenge is reaching out to people,” he said. Identification of locality-specific problems has been on for the last three or four years. About 100 to 150 problems are identified in each division, and local teams formed to spread awareness. Direct allocation of Rs. 2 crore from municipal funds for each ward and Rs.1, 000 per head from State budget are among its policies.

“We are going to highlight the point that people end up paying twice for everything in the present set-up. They pay for mosquito eradication, yet buy repellents. They pay for schools and hospitals, yet spend separately on education and health,” said Mr. Rao.

Instead of making rounds of the MLA for local works, people should be able to send booth-wise elected representatives to ward committee meetings where the works for each locality should be finalised, he said.
