PRECIOUS INSIGHTS: From left, M.G. Rajamanickam, Assistant Collector - Training, Thrissur, and his wife R. Nishanthini, IPS trainee, interact with students of TRACE Academy in Tiruchi on Monday. Regional Deputy Director of Employment and Training P. Suresh Kumar is also seen in the picture. — TIRUCHI: Rural students educated in Government schools have odds stacked against them in the path of academic, professional, and career pursuits. Right? Nevertheless, there have been exceptions to the premise. Why exceptions? Exceptions can well take a backseat. Through determination, perseverance and hard work, one is bound to fulfil the aim, assert this successful young couple M.G. Rajamanickam, Assistant Collector – Training, Thrissur, and R. Nishanthini, IPS trainee. Knowledge empowerment accruing from hard work, they point out, is key to success. Candidates enrolled for free coaching at the Tiruchi Academy for Competitive Examinations (TRACE) run by the District Welfare Committee received the right inspiration from the couple. In fact, the couple never considered rural schooling an impediment for registering achievements. Both entered the portals of engineering colleges and through proper time management made preparations for the UPSC examination with assiduous zeal. They were both among the group of IAS and IPS trainees who observed the best practices in vogue at the Collectorate, panchayats and other establishments in Tiruchi a couple of years ago. The exposure helped. Mr. Rajamanickam has taken steps to replicate in Thrissur the good practices he observed at the Government Juvenile Home in Tiruchi. At the initiative of the Regional Deputy Director of Employment and Training P.Suresh Kumar, 200 books were sent to Thrissur to foster the knowledge of the inmates of the Juvenile Home there. Mr. Rajamanickam has also floated a Study Centre there akin to the ones that function under the aegis of the Employment Office in Tiruchi district. As for Ms. Nishanthini, the rigour of physical exercises during the course of the training at Mussoorie was a bit frightening. But then, she got used to it gradually, and now opines that such trainings provide one the resilience to withstand any kind of pressure. Owing to their rural moorings, both could strike an instant chord with the audience of IAS/IPS aspirants, many of whom belong to rural parts of the central districts. The couple’s observation was that there was no need for the aspirants to get overawed by the sophistication of their competitors from urban areas. The sense of achievement of rural candidates in clearing UPSC was certainly of a higher order, they told the aspirants.
