THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fifteen students of the Department of Geology of the University of Kerala have been selected as geologists and hydro-geologists by the Union Public Service Commission based on the results of the all-India Geologists Examinations of 2008. A press note issued here said the students would be posted either at the Geological Survey of India under the Ministry of Mines or at the Central Ground Water Board under the Ministry of Water Resources. The curriculum of the M.Sc. Geology course at the department is so designed as to enable students to compete successfully in various national-level competitive examinations. The fact that 15 students were able to taste success in the UPSC examinations is testimony to the state-of-the-art training given to them using modern geological tools and this comes at a time when the department is gearing up to celebrate its golden jubilee in 2013, the press note added. Last year, 16 students, including seven research scholars, cleared the UPSC examinations.
