TIRUCHI: Special subsidy will be released for setting up seed processing units under the Centrally-sponsored National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP). The programme has the twin objective of stepping up the annual growth in agriculture sector and ensuring economic uplift of economically weaker sections such as women self-help groups, Collector T. Soundiah said in a press release issued here. Maximum subsidyA maximum subsidy of Rs.7.5 lakh would be released for setting up a unit. Women members of self-help groups, agriculture resource-persons, those running agriculture consultancy service units, and non-governmental organisations would be eligible for the subsidy. The subsidy should be utilised for the purchase of seed processing machinery, scales, moisture measuring and packaging equipment. The Collector appealed to interested persons and institutions to avail themselves of the scheme. Applications can be had from the office of the Assistant Director of Agriculture of the respective block, he added.
