Musical LEGEND: Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Tanmoy Bose performing at the JTpac auditorium at Thripunithura on Sunday.

KOCHI: JTpac (Jose Thomas Performing Art Centre), Thripunithura, witnessed an outstanding ‘sarod and tabla’ performance by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Tanmoy Bose on Sunday.

It was a packed house that listened in rapt attention to the maestro who presented many Hindustani ragas.

On the prelude theatre, a daff muttu programme from “Maappila Kalakal” was presented by Jihas Valappat.

Artiste honoured

Every month, JTpac is honouring renowned artistes for their contributions to the various fields of art. This month, JTpac felicitated Kalamandalam Sathyabhama with a fellowship.

In the absence of JTpac chairman Mohanlal, sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan gave away the fellowship certificate and cash award to the artiste. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan was born in the illustrious Bangash lineage rooted in the Senia Bangash school of music. He was taught by his father and guru, the great Haafiz Ali Khan of Gwalior. Today he shoulders the sixth generation inheritance of this legendary lineage. After his debut, the career graph of this musical legend took a new trajectory. And thus, the world saw the sarod being given a new and yet timeless interpretation by Amjad Ali Khan.
