TRS chief blames UPA government for going back on its commitment Says State, Centre should speed up process of formation of Telangana NEW DELHI: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao met President Pratibha Patil and Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani and sought their support for the formation of a separate Telangana and conveyed his intention to go on a fast-unto-death stir if his demand was not met by November. In a memorandum submitted to both of them, Mr. Rao said he was convinced that this agitation was the only democratic and Gandhian method for the fulfilment of the hopes and aspirations of the Telangana people. He blamed the UPA government for going back on its commitment made in the common minimum programme and ignoring the consensus arrived at in favour of formation of Telangana State, among almost all the political parties in the country. The Congress party continued to extend outright support to the Andhra Pradesh government which was causing irreparable damage to the economy of Telangana in the garb of development. All the representations of TRS on this score had fallen on deaf ears, he alleged. Mr. Rao told journalists that the State and the Central governments should speed up the process of formation of the separate Telangana State. The State government should pass a resolution in this regard in the Assembly and the Centre should set the ball rolling for Telangana formation. He claimed that both Ms. Patil and Mr. Advani asked him not to take such an extreme mode of protest. The TRS president also announced that he would stage a dharna on Tuesday in Lakshminagar area of Medak district seeking retrieval of 400 acres lands belonging to Dalits illegally occupied by rich and the influential landlords.
