ONGC and Chhattisgarh triumph

MUMBAI: ONGC edged out Services 63-56 in the men’s final of the 5th United Phosphorous Savio Cup all-India basketball tournament at the Don Bosco courts.

Maharashtra could not capitalise on early advantage in the women’s final, ahead 21-13 in first quarter, and eventually lost 92-79 to Chhattisgarh.

Sambaji Kadam (Services) and Akanksha Singh (Chhattisgarh) were named best players in the men’s and women’s categories.

The scores (finals): Men: ONGC 63 (M. Anoop 17, Suresh Kumar 11, Trideep Rai 11) bt Services 56 (Nixon 11, Jai Ram 22, Parveen 11).

Women: Chhattisgarh 92 (M. Pushpa 25, Anju Lakra 21, Akanksha Singh 14, Seema Singh 15) bt Maharashtra 79 (Manisha Dange 21, Jeo Blesson 17, K. Siji 16). — Special Correspondent
