Chennai Customs lifts title

Udhagamandalam: Chennai Customs registered a 56-47 win over citymate Indian Bank and emerged the champion of State-level basketball tournament, organised by the Nilgiris District Basketball Association, here on Sunday.

The results (final): Chennai Customs 56 (Vinoth 17) bt Indian Bank (Chennai) 47 (Gopi 16). Semifinals: Chennai Customs 56 (Vinoth 19) bt Southern Railway (Chennai) 52; Indian Bank 58 (Gopi 12) bt Tamil Nadu Police 35.

LMS, RPS in final

The Laidlaw Memorial School (LMS) scored a two-wicket win over Stanes Higher Secondary School in a closely fought semifinal contest of the NDCA under-14 inter-school cricket tournament for the Selai Gowder Memorial Rolling Trophy at the Laidlaw School grounds on Sunday.

In the final, Laidlaw will take on Riverside Public School (RPS), which defeated St. Joseph’s Boys Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School by 57 runs.

The scores (semifinals); Stanes HSS 97 for seven in 30 overs lost to Laidlaw Memorial School 98 for eight in 29 overs; Riverside PS 172 for three in 25 overs (R. Santosh 45, M. Dhanush 41) bt St. Joseph’s BAIHSS 115 (K. Vaideeshwar 37, M. Dhanush three for 21).

Vignesh, Aarudhra prevail

At Coimbatore, K. Vignesh of Yuva Bharathi and Aarudhra Ganesh of GD Matriculation Higher Secondary School clinched the under-14 top spots in the boys’ and girls’ section respectively in the first district level chess tournament at the SSS hall on Sunday.

Final standings:

Boys: U-8: 1. D. Jai Aditya (Lisieux); 2. V. Navinth (Ponni NPS); 3. S. Raja Aravind (Lisieux). U-10: M. Roshen Prathyug (PKD Pollachi); 2. K. Shivaraam (Yuva Bharathi); 3. B. Saidhar (IPS). U-12: 1. Pavan Ragunathan (Lisieux); 2. K. Harish Gupta (Lisieux); 3. L. Kaushik (Stanes HSS). U-14: 1. K. Vignesh (Yuva Bharathi); 2. P. Koushik Muthesh (Kikani); 3. B. Bala Guru (Vimal Jothi).
