This Day That Age
Mr. Chou En-lai, Chinese Prime Minister, has proposed early talks between Prime Minister Nehru and himself to discuss the Sino-Indian frontier and other problems concerning relations between the two countries. The proposal, in a letter sent by Mr. Chou En-lai to Mr. Nehru, on Sunday, said that the armed forces of both countries each withdraw 20 kilometres (about 12 miles) at once from the McMahon line in the east and from the line upto which each side exercises actual control in the west. In New Delhi, the Union Cabinet met on Monday morning to consider China’s proposal. Apart from Prime Minister Nehru, Mr. Morarji Desai and some of the other members of the Cabinet, the Chief of Staff of the Army was specially invited to attend.
