BJP’s image affected, says V.S. Acharya

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Home Minister V.S. Acharya on Monday admitted that the crisis in the State Government had dented the image of the BJP.

Addressing presspersons here, Dr. Acharya said development works would be resumed and people’s confidence regained.

“We will work hard to live up to the expectations of the people,” he added.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would preside over the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. He would tour the flood-affected districts of north Karnataka for three days from November 12, and the rehabilitation work would be expedited.

Minister for Public Works C.M. Udasi said a coordination committee would be constituted in a week for taking major decisions. Arun Jaitley or Sushma Swaraj would be part of the panel.

To a question if he would be dropped from the Cabinet along with five others, which was one of the conditions of the Reddy brothers, Mr. Udasi said he was unaware of it.

To another question on the purpose of the Ministers’ visit to New Delhi on Sunday, he said it was to wish former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani on the occasion of his birthday.

Sources in the State secretariat said that Speaker Jagadish Shettar had given a positive response on joining the Cabinet.

Earlier, Dr. Acharya said he and the Chief Minister met Mr. Shettar at his residence.
