Egg prices to go up

NAMAKKAL: The price of egg, which was increased by 15 paise on Monday, is expected to go up in the coming weeks.

National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) Namakkal Zone president P. Selvaraj, in a press release said, the demand for egg in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Northern States had increased sharply.

The egg price in other markets including Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkatta had increased significantly following rise in the demand. Poultry farmers and traders in Namakkal were sending eggs to Northern States following the sharp increase in the demand.

Currently the price of an egg stands at Rs. 2.75.

The NECC also increased the price of the layer birds to Rs. 35 a kg on Saturday, the release says.
