THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: T.R. Chidambaram, Deputy Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), has taken over as Director, ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU), Thiruvananthapuram. He took charge from P.S. Veeraraghavan, on October 31, who has been elevated as Director, VSSC. Mr. Chidambaram has been closely associated with the Indian space programme for more than three decades. He has made significant contributions for the space research and development, particularly in the complex technology areas of navigation, guidance & control (NGC) systems. After doing his M.Sc. (Engineering) in Control Systems Engineering at Madras University, he joined the VSSC in 1973. He is responsible for setting up an integrated simulation laboratory for launch vehicle simulation. This is an extensively used facility that has helped validating ISRO’s launch vehicle systems ASLV, PSLV and GSLV. Under his leadership, significant progress has been made in the development of advanced mission computers, adaptive telemetry, ASIC’s development for critical applications, redundant actuation systems and integrated simulation for launch vehicles. He has also played a key role in setting up a road map for the development of ISRO’s avionics systems for the next two decades. He is a member of several professional bodies like the System Society of India and International Academia of Astronautics (IAA). He has brought out more than 100 technical reports and published over 15 papers in various journals.
