Hard work pays: Students, who were selected for O.P. Jindal Memorial Merit Scholarship, at a function held in Salem Government College of Engineering on Monday. — SALEM: The engineering and technology students should contribute more to bring in positive changes in society, Joint Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of JSW Steels Limited, Vijay Sharma, has said. Participating in the presentation of O.P. Jindal Memorial Merit Scholarship programme in Salem Government College of Engineering on Monday, he said that the country was undergoing tremendous changes and students were presented a lot of opportunities to contribute for the development of society. Though the current economic crisis hit the country, the nation’s economy doing fairly well, he pointed out. Mr. Vijay Sharma asked students to put in wholehearted efforts to bring in best results even in the day-to-day tasks. He said that the JSW Steels would conduct a recruitment drive for the students in the college shortly. Later, he presented scholarships to the following students selected for the academic year 2009-10: C. Yokesh of Civil Engineering, P. Kamaraj of Mechanical Engineering, R. Natarajan of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, R. Keerthanalaxmi of Electronics and Communication Engineering, R.M. Muthupalaniappan of Computer Science Engineering, S.Edward Jones and V. Vennila of Metallurgical Engineering and M. Mohammed Iqbal of Civil Engineering. College Principal S.R. Damodarasamy, Executive Director Jayant Sathaye, senior officials from JSW Steels and faculty members were present.
