Rabi crops will be sown on 2.15 lakh hectares of land in Dharwad district Farmers asked to make use of crop insurance facility and avail crop loan of up to Rs. 50,000 Dharwad: Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Darpan Jain has said that compensation to the tune of Rs. 13.2 crore had been disbursed to affected families towards damages to 24,491 houses after a fresh survey was carried out. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Jain said the compensation cheques had been issued to owners of 10,316 houses in Navalgund taluk, 4,750 houses in Dharwad taluk, 3,939 houses in Kundagol taluk, 3,775 houses in Hubli taluk, and 1,711 houses in Kalaghatagi taluk. The district administration had earlier released Rs. 6 crore towards property damages and subsequently another Rs. 7 crore had been released to the tahsildars in the district after the completion of a fresh survey. Mr. Jain clarified that there was no change in the pattern of compensation for the crop loss. The district administration had released Rs. 43.20 lakh towards flood relief works including the crop loss. He said so far the Government had released Rs. 54 crore towards flood relief of which utilisation certificate had been submitted for Rs. 30 crore. Mr. Jain said Rs. 10 crore had been released to Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation for taking up repair works of infrastructure damaged by the torrential rains. He said that Rs. 4 crore had been released to Dharwad zilla panchayat, Rs. 1 crore for Hescom, Rs. 14.5 crore for Public Works Department, Rs. 57 lakh for works on national highways, Rs. 1.5 crore for repair of Malaprabha Right Bank Canal, and Rs. 50 lakh for taking up of repair work of minor irrigation tanks. According to him works taken up at a cost of Rs. 10 crore had been completed. Mr. Jain said the process of partial shifting some of the affected villages, including Basapur and Harijan Keri at Annigeri, would be completed in a month’s time. He said a model project was being chalked out for shifting of Jannatnagar and Laxmisinganakeri in Dharwad. Mr. Jain said that the Department of Agriculture had set a target of sowing crops on 2.15 lakh hectares during the rabi season. Till date, sowing had been completed on 1.51 lakh hectares of land, he added. The Deputy Commissioner said so far 12,594 quintals of red gram seeds and 2,057 quintals of wheat seeds had been supplied to the farmers on a 75 per cent subsidy. Besides, 3,520 metric tonnes of various fertilizers, including urea and DAP, had been supplied to the farmers for the rabi cultivation and the district administration had a stock of 5,196 metric tonnes of various fertilisers, he added. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the farmers to make use of the crop insurance scheme and also the crop loan facility of up to Rs. 50,000 at the rate of 3 per cent interest being provided through banks.
