MLA accused of harassment

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: Hospet-resident Gousiya Khan has accused B.S. Anand Singh, Vijayanagar MLA, and his followers of harassment to force her to vacate the house that she currently occupies. The house is adjacent to a hotel said to be owned by Minister for Tourism G. Janardhan Reddy. The MLA and his supporters claim that the property has been bought by Mr. Reddy.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Ms. Khan, who is also the convener of the district unit of the Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, alleged that Mr. Singh’s supporters wanted her to vacate the house to enable Mr. Reddy to occupy it. When she refused, she was threatened by them, she said. Even the MLA had allegedly threatened her over the phone, she added. A group of people allegedly attacked her house recently in order to forcibly evict them, she said.

According to her, the house, which was in the name of her father Chand Basha, was in dispute within the family.

However, Mr. Singh and his supporters allege that the property had already been purchased and payment had been made to her relatives (her aunt’s sons). Ms. Gousiya said that her relatives had vacated the house and were living elsewhere.

Ms. Khan said that a complaint had been lodged with the police and the Deputy Commissioner regarding the matter, but in vain. Stating that she has written a letter to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and others, she said that she would again meet the new Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police and request them to protect her, her family and the property.
