Udhagamandalam: Opposing a notification relating to the Tamil Nadu Preservation of Private Forests (TNPPF) Act, hundreds of persons participated in a procession and demonstration organised by the Nilgiris district AIADMK at Gudalur on Monday. They were led by AIADMK MP Semmalai.

The participants said that the notification would make it cumbersome for people to buy or sell patta lands which fall under the ambit of the Act.

Addressing a public meeting, Mr.Semmalai said that such measures were being resorted to by the DMK Government despite knowing that they would affect the local people. He said that he would raise the issue in Parliament.

Other speakers said that pattas should be granted to the people occupying jenmam lands. The long standing demand for throwing open Siriyur-Sathyamangalam road should be fulfilled without delay. Restrictions imposed on vehicular traffic on Masinagudy-Gudalur-Bandipur road should be lifted.
