PERAMBALUR: A day-long awareness programme on the nuances of cotton cultivation practices will be organised under the auspices of the Cotton Corporation of India Limited, at Kunnam on Wednesday. An official release issued here on Monday said that agricultural experts from various institutes, including the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University and the Central Institute of Cotton Research, Nagpur, besides officials from the insurance sector would participate in the programme and sensitise the farmers to the prospects of the crop. The experts would explain the eco-friendly cultivation techniques applicable for raising cotton. The release specifically appealed to the cotton-growers of Varahur; Kallampudur; Kattarai; Moongilapadi and Maruvathur to take maximum advantage of the awareness programme. A group of farmers from these villages wouldget quality seeds and critical inputs. The awareness programme is aimed at increasing the area under cotton cultivation, the release added.
