NEYVELI: The employees of Neyveli Lignite Corporation should work with single-minded devotion for the company’s growth. With honesty and integrity, it can be accomplished, said A.R. Ansari, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NLC. He was speaking at the inaugural function of the Vigilance Week celebrations held at the NLC Training Complex, Neyveli. He said honesty and integrity were two qualities that ought to be inborn and could not be taught. If employees were pursuing any part-time commercial ventures, it would certainly affect their performance in the NLC because none could serve two masters at the same time and remain loyal to both. In course of time, such diversionary pursuits would harm both the company and the employee’s personal life. Mr. Ansari said that there must not be any deviation from the guidelines laid out for effecting purchase and auction. But on this account, there should not be any vacillation in taking a decision, because the delay would cost the company dearly. If any decisions were to be taken beyond the scope of the guidelines, permission ought to be obtained from the appropriate authorities but the guidelines should never be side-stepped. Apart from preventive vigilance and punitive vigilance, the surveillance played an important role in preventing deviatory practices, Mr. Ansari added. Chief Vigilance Officer of NLC K.S. Balasubramanian said NLC was making the best use of the communication technology. The e-auction and e-payment systems had ensured transparency in administration and acted as an efficient antidote to corrupt practices. He further said that the Right to Information Act and insistence upon transparent governance had brought down the cases of corruption. However, in the corruption index India stood at the 85th place at the world level, he said. On the occasion, Mr. Ansari released a compendium of circulars issued by the Central Vigilance Commission and the first copy was received by Mr. Balasubramanian. Earlier, a group of NLC employees staged a skit highlighting the importance and advantages of transparency and the disadvantages of corrupt practices. Prizes were given away to the winners of various competitions held on the theme ‘Vigilance.’
