New brand of cement is of premium quality, says CMD of the company The company made its mark first in apartment construction, he says VISAKHAPATNAM: My Home Industries, which commissioned its cement plant near the city with an annual capacity of 1.30 million tonnes in August, launched a new brand named ‘Maha Shakthi PSC’ on Monday. My Home Industries Chairman and Managing Director J. Rameswar Rao formally launched the new brand made with perfect blend of finest clinker and steel plant blast furnace slag at a function here in the presence of company’s directors and top brass of joint venture partner CRH from Ireland. The new brand is produced at Mulakalapalli close to Yelamanchili. The plant was set up with an investment of Rs.300 crores and there is plan to double its capacity by spending Rs.150 crores. The new brand Portland blast furnace slag cement (PSC) needs 75 per cent less energy compared to ordinary cement. Dr. Rao told reporters that Maha Shakthi PSC was cost-effective and environment friendly and they were looking forward for new business from the plant located in Visakhapatnam in Orissa, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and parts of Bihar. He said the new brand was premium quality cement with typical light colour and easier finish. “It has high fitness of cement produces less porosity of concrete which protects against weather attack protecting against corrosion,” he said. Dr. Rao said the company, which started its business in cement after a success story in apartment construction, said had plans to expand its total production capacity from 4.5 million tonnes 10 million tonnes over a period of five years. The company made a modest beginning by taking over a mini cement plant in 1998 with a capacity of 600 tonnes per day. It has grown from 1.98 lakh tonnes per annum in 1998-99 to 3.2 million tones per annum in 2008-09. It earned a turnover of Rs.1,110 crores during last year with a profit before tax of Rs.357 crores and this year, it is expecting a turnover of Rs.1200 crores. Country Manager of CRH Tony Macken, company director (finance and commercial) Sambasiva Rao and senior president R.P. Singh and others were present.
