momentous occasion: Members at the launch of The Hindu E-Plus Club at VITAM College, in Visakhapatnam on Monday. VISAKHAPATNAM: The Hindu E-Plus club was launched to a full house at the Viswanadha Institute of Technology and Management in Anandapuram near here on Monday. Over 100 students from the MBA stream attended the inaugural session. Addressing the students, the Former Rector of Andhra University and Director of Centre for Policy Studies A. Prasanna Kumar said that the world was paving way for the fourth IT revolution. Elaborating, he said, “The first one was mankind taking up writing 5,000 years ago, the second - the invention of paper about 2,000 years back, the third being the advent of printing press in the 15th century and the fourth - the modern information technology revolution.” He urged the students to make use of the present scenario. He noted that India has got the highest English speaking young population in the world and the young minds should make best use of it. He advised the students and the members of the E-Plus club to better their communication skills by making best use of the E-Plus activities. “Good communication is all about building rapport with the audience and communication essentially does mean only words. Eloquence and clarity should be the base for good communication,” Prof. Prasanna Kumar noted. Appreciating the initiative taken by The Hindu, he said, “The newspaper was founded by nationalist leaders in the pre-independence era and it still stands for credibility, accuracy and speed. It has done yeoman service despite several modern challenges.” The Principal of the college Ch. Prabhakar Rao stressed on building up word power through newspaper reading and turning the pages of a good dictionary. The E-Plus club activity was first launched by the paper’s Editor-in-Chief N. Ram at S.R.R. Government Degree and PG College in Karimnagar on November 20, 2008. It was initially started to help rural students develop their communication skills, but after its success, it is now being extended to other colleges in the cities and professional institutions. A club comprises 30-like-minded students who are good in academics but lack proper communication skills. The weekly club activity that spreads over one academic year, is designed by Hyderabad - based firm Skillspark and is intended to better the soft skills in an informal setup within the campus. The Head of the Department of MBA N. Viswanadh, Chief of Bureau of The Hindu B. Prabhakkar Sarma, and Principal Correspondent Sumit Bhattacharjee addressed the students. The Chairman of VITAM Viswanadha Narasimham, Chief Mentor M.B. Sastry and other senior faculty members were present.
