Azhikode’s advice to budding journalists

KOZHIKODE: Social critic Sukumar Azhikode has urged budding journalists to focus on journalistic ethics.

Addressing the convocation ceremony of the 11th batch of the Institute of Communication and Journalism (ICJ) under the Calicut Press Club here on Monday, Prof. Azhikode said that journalists were mostly after sensational news. Drawing attention to the exposé by journalist P. Sainath, of ‘coverage packaging’ resorted to by newspapers during elections in Maharashtra, Prof. Azhikode said that the Election Commission should look into the issue.

Earlier, Prof. Azhikode gave away the Mathrubhumi gold medal to P.N. Maneesh, who got the first rank.
