Sai Praneet to meet Prannoy

MANDYA: The top seeds in both the boys and girls section failed to make it to the title round in the 34th National junior badminton championship at the PET stadium, here on Sunday.

Third seed H.S. Prannoy of Air India played with guts and guile to beat the top-seeded Summet Reddy 26-24, 21-19 in a fast paced encounter. Prannoy showed better control with his line and length and played with a clever mix of defence and attack.

The first game went down to the wire with the lead swiftly changing hands and the game spilled into extra points which saw Prannoy having the last laugh with Reddy netting a low flick and the former finishing with a smash.

In the second game, Prannoy was very much in control with an 18-9 lead before complacency seemed to get the better of him. He gave away quite a few negative points and Reddy came within striking distance at 19-20 before Prannoy pulled up his socks and closed the game and the match.

Prannoy meets second seed Sai Praneet of AP in the final. Praneet, in a match punctuated with quite a few unforced errors thanks to the poor quality of the shuttles, prevailed over Nandagopal of Railways 21-15, 18-21, 21-18.

Easy for Sikki

Young Sikki Reddy, the defending champion, sailed to the title round with an easy 21-11, 21-13 victory over Daya Elsa Jacob. Sikki meets her teammate and fourth seed P.V. Sindhu in the final. A temperamentally sound Sindhu tamed top seed P.C. Thulasi 22-20, 18-21, 21-19.
