BANGALORE: Sprinter Shalini Naik of BMS College bagged a sprint double and with it the ‘best athlete’ trophy amongst women while Amith Yadav of Oxford College, the decathlete, was the unquestionable ‘best athlete’ amongst men as the 45th Bangalore University inter-colleges athletic championship concluded here at the Sree Kanteerava stadium on Sunday. Harish Kumar turned the tables on K.B. Kiran (who won the 200 metres) to emerge the fastest man of the meet clocking 11.0 seconds. Kiran was timed at 11.10seconds. Al Ameen was streets above the rest winning the overall team honours with 54 points while the corresponding women’s team championship was bagged by Maharani Arts with 24 points. The day’s lone record was established by Dinesh Kumar who bettered his own year-old mark in the 20 km walk. The SBM Jain College lad stopped the clock at 1:45:23.0 seconds against his own earlier mark of 1:51:25.0 seconds. The results (winners only): Men: 100m: Harish Kumar K (Al Ameen) 11.00s; 400m hurdles: Arunodai Kumar Singh (Army) 1:04.0s. Half-marathon: Harish H.Y (GFGC Hoskote) 1:20:12.4s; 20km walk: Dinesh Kumar (SBM Jain) 1:45:23.0s (NMR- Old record, own 1:51:25.0s, 2008). Pole vault: Santhosh C (GFGC, KR Puram) 2.50m; Javelin: Nagaraj (Siddaganga) 51.17m; 4x100m relay: Al Ameen 44.60s. Women: 100m: Shalini Naik (BMS) 12.60s; 400m hurdles: Raksha P (Sheshadripuram) 1:16.0s; Discus: Swetha Singh (BMS) 20.70m. High jump: G.M. Aishwarya (UVCE) 1.56m; Triple jump: Shubha B.B. (Sheshadripuram) 11.25m. Heptathlon: Shubha B.B. (Sheshadripuram) 3436 pts; 4x100 m relay: St. Joseph’s Commerce 59.20s. Team championship: Men: Al Ameen College 54 points.
