Chitradurga: The Chitradurga police have claimed to have cracked the burglary case where several valuable items were taken away from the house of the former Chief Minister the late S. Nijalingappa, with the arrest of two persons. The Town police had registered a burglary case on Saturday. Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, Additional Superintendent of Police U.P. Shivarama Reddy said: “We have cracked the case with the arrest of Ravi (20) and Shekhar (24), both from J.J. Hatti locality of Chitradurga city. Incidentally, both are contract labourers working for a city municipal council (CMC) contractor.” Mr. Reddy said that three teams were formed to investigate the case. During investigations, the team led by Balachandra, assistant sub-inspector of Kote police station, detained Ravi, who later revealed the name of Shekhar. They reportedly sold the stolen articles to Niyaz Pasha (28), a scrap merchant in the city. Mr. Reddy said that Niyaz Pasha had not been arrested. However, he was being questioned. “During interrogation we came to know that objects were being taken from the house since a fortnight. But the matter came to light only on Saturday.” A team had been sent to Bangalore as Niyaz Pasha had sold some of the items to a Bangalore-based scrap dealer, Mr. Reddy said. Regarding security at the house, he said that a constable had been deployed for the time being but as it was a private property a decision on security could be taken only with the permission of Kiran Shankar, son of the late leader. To another question, Mr. Reddy said that after producing the accused before the judicial magistrate, permission would be obtained to keep them in custody for further interrogation. Mr. Reddy announced a suitable reward for the police officials who solved the case.
