Generator at Moolamattom to be shut down

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One generator of the six at the Moolamattom power station of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will be shut down for 10 days from Monday to carry out repair of a valve.

KSEB officials said the seal on the upstream side of the generator’s spherical valve will be replaced. A KSEB official said there no restriction on power supply would be effected during these days. This assessment of the KSEB is based on the fact that two out of the three faulty generators at the Moozhiyar power station had been brought back on line. (The functioning of three of the six generators was affected following an explosion at the power house in May 2008). Consequently, an additional 110 MW of electricity is available to the State’s power grid. Moreover, the State has already decided to purchase 150 to 200 MW of electricity from traders at the rate of Rs.7 to 8 a unit.
