PUDUCHERRY: The Communist Party of India has sought Rs. 2,000 as rain relief for every house affected by the recent rain. The party has also urged the government to grant Rs. 10,000 to every house damaged by the rain in Puducherry, a release said. The government must provide Rs. 10,000 as relief to each gram panchayat instead of Rs. 5000 as announced by the Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam, considering the extensive damage caused by the rain, the release said. In another release, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi urged the government to take flood preventive measures in the Union Territory, especially Karaikal, where low-lying areas are in danger. A total of 36 houses belonging to poor Dalits built by the Slum Clearance Board in the Niravi commune of Karaikal suffered excessive damage. The government must provide 10 litres of kerosene and 25 kg of rice to slum dwellers immediately, the release added.
