New service: Union Minister of State for Planning, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture V. Narayanasamy flagging off a patrol-cum-aid vehicle on Sunday. Speaker R. Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam are in the picture. — PUDUCHERRY: With the objective of conducting round-the-clock patrolling and providing assistance to victims of crime and road accidents, 10 newly launched police patrol-cum-aid vehicles will be stationed at key places across Puducherry. People can contact the Police Control Room at toll free phone number 100 for assistance. The vehicles have been purchased at a cost of Rs. 23,42,590 out of the total sanctioned funds of Rs. 45 lakh under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Fund of Union Minister of State V. Narayanasamy. The remaining amount will be utilised for modernisation of the police control room, according to Director General of Police Alok Kumar Verma. A release said the patrol vehicles are being attached under various police stations for patrolling every nook and corner and taking immediate action against persons indulging in unlawful activities. It would provide assistance to victims of road accidents by providing first aid and transporting them to the nearest hospital. Out of the 10 vehicles, six would be utilised in Puducherry, two in Karaikal and one each in Mahe and Yanam. In Puducherry, two vehicles each would cover the north, south and rural regions. In north region, the vehicles would be stationed at Venkata Subbiah Statue to cover Orleanpet, Odiansalai and Grand Bazaar limits and Muthialpet-East Coast Road junction to cover Muthialpet, Lawspet and Kalapet area. One vehicle would be stationed at Indira Gandhi statue to cover D’Nagar, Mudaliarpet and Reddiarpalayam police station limits and another at Villianur-Bypass road junction to cover Villianur and Mangalam police station areas in the south region. In the rural region, one vehicle would be stationed at Thavalakuppam junction to cover Ariyankuppam, Thavalukuppam, Kirumampakkam and Bahour police station area, while the other would be stationed at Madagadipet road junction to cover Thirubhuvanai, Nettapakkam and Thirukannur areas, the release said. One vehicle for Karaikal would be put into service in Karaikal town and Kottucherry police station area, while the other would cover Thirunallar and T.R. Pattinam circles. Each vehicle would have a head constable and a constable apart from the driver. It would have a stretcher and first aid box, the release said.
