Thrissur: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that with the completion of Muziris Heritage Project, Kodungalloor, will become a tourist centre of international importance. He was speaking after inaugurating the renovated amenities at Munakkal Beach, near Kodunagalloor, on Sunday.

The State government had undertaken projects worth Rs.460 crore for infrastructure development in tourism sector, the Minister pointed out. The welfare of the fish workers had been taken into consideration while undertaking beautification of the beaches, he added.

“Thrissur district has great scope for beach tourism. In the second phase, the Munakkal beach will get an additional amount of Rs.10 crore for development works,” he added. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran presided over the function.

Beautification of the Munakkal Beach was done by the Tourism Department and Harbour Engineering Department under Tsunami Rehabilitation Project.

The casuarina forest set up by the Forest Department as a protective bio-shield for the beach is an added attraction.
