SALEM: Salesmen in fair price shops should ensure proper distribution of essential commodities and kerosene under the Public Distribution System (PDS) with correct measurement. Otherwise, consumers will harbour ill feelings against the popular government, said Joint Registrar of Co-operative Societies (Salem Region) K. C. Ravichandran. DistributedPresiding over a function in which electronic billing machines were distributed to kerosene outlets here on Saturday, Mr. Ravichandran, who took charge recently, said that 15 outlets had been attached to 115 fair price shops covering 1.09 lakh cards. To ensure correct measurement and proper billing, electronic billing machines had been distributed to the salesmen, he further pointed out. Training campHe said that to make salesmen familiar with the new technology, a training camp by Coramandal Infotec had also been organised. He called on the salesmen to distribute essentials to the people without any shortage. “Otherwise it will reflect on the performance of the popular government. Hence each and every salesman should discharge their duties with commitment,” he said. He also said that the Re. 1 per kilogram rice scheme was targeting only the poor. The equipment had been introduced to help measure quantities accurately for purchasers. Fair price shop salesmen should make the people aware that commodities could be purchased on all days. “They should instil confidence in the minds of people that all will be ‘fair’ in fair price shops,” he said. The equipment would also enable the salesmen to update the procurement details, and easily keep track of stock position, sales trend and coverage of cards under a particular scheme. “It will save enormous time for all,” he said. Infotec’s Marketing Development Executive A. Ravindra Bharathi, its software engineer Ramkumar, PDS Deputy Registrar Anbanandam and other officials participated.
