PUDUKOTTAI: The Ponnamaravathy and Tirumayam Taluk wings of the Communist Party of India (CPI) have urged the district administration to take immediate action to sanction crop loans to farmers through the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies. A resolution adopted at a meeting held at Ponnamaravathy near here on Sunday, referred to the onset of the monsoon in the district and said although the farmers had raised the crops pinning their hopes on the monsoon, the non-sanctioning of crop loans by the cooperative societies had been a major bottleneck. Rude shockThe resolution said that the cooperative banks insisted on pledging the jewellery which has come as a rude shock to the paddy-growers. The meeting also adopted a resolution urging the State Government to appoint additional staff for the Grievance Redress wing of the newly-started Ponnamaravathy taluk office. Although an official in the cadre of Tahsildar had been appointed, no new post of Junior Assistant and other staff had been created, the resolution said. Party Ponnamaravathy taluk secretary A.L. Raj and district secretary of All India Trade Union Congress V. Singamuthu were among those who spoke.
