Recalling those good old days

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: MCCites do not need a reason to celebrate or perhaps nothing can prevent the alumni from coming together to recall and celebrate their good old days. Proof was the packed hall inside Presidency Club, in which members of the Madras Christian College Alumni Association gathered despite the incessant rains that lashed the city on Saturday. The alumni from different batches came together to felicitate R.W. Alexander Jesudasan, who took over as the 16th Principal of the college in June.

The chief guest, writer Shree Kumar Varma, an alumnus of the college, said that when one moves from yesterday to today, it is an excitement for all, especially for students of MCC.

Introducing the Principal, president of the alumni association K.M. Mammen said it was no mean feat to be at the helm of affairs of the college, handling 32 departments, about 300 teaching staff, 250 non-teaching staff and over 5,000 students. Besant Raj, chairman of the MCC Board, detailed the process of selection of the Principal. Twenty-one candidates applied for the post, of which 16 were alumni of the college.

“A series of tests were conducted, including a psychometric test, in which the aptitude, personality and intelligence of the candidates were put to test.
