Four-day individual tour packages to Sabarimala; fares slashed for group tours

NELLORE: Here is a good news for Ayyappa devotees visiting Sabarimala. The APSRTC has slashed the fares per kilometre for group packages to benefit devotees who hire buses for the pilgrimage.

“The corporation, which has been serving the Ayyappa devotees for the past few years by operating services to Sabarimala has made all arrangements for the convenience of pilgrims this year too. The RTC will run good buses with all facilities and provide a safe journey for the devotees,” said the officials.

Camp at Pampa

The Nellore Region was plying maximum number of buses for Sabarimala in the State. The management had operated about 52 buses for group tour packages in 2007-08 and about 20 buses last year. The Nellore depot will also arrange a camp with four mechanics, two traffic supervisors and four security guards at Pampa for smooth flow of buses from A.P. to the Ayyappa temple.

Speaking to The Hindu, Deputy Chief Traffic Manager M.V. Prabhakar Reddy said the management will charge for minimum 420 km per day for the buses booked under group package tours.

For the convenience of individual passengers/devotees RTC will arrange four-day tour packages (only transportation) on November 14, 17, 19, 21, 28 and 30, December 2, 5, 12, 15, 19 and 21. Individual tours would also be arranged on 3, 7, 11 and 14 in January 2010. The management will change tour dates as per the availability/convenience of the pilgrims, said Mr. Reddy.
